I was working on a post about Gaming's Oscar season vs. Blockbuster season being the opposite of Hollywood's, but that never came together.

Still, it's cool that during what is usually a pre-holiday drought, we had an embarrassment of riches as long as we had an internet connection. Braid and Penny Arcade were a couple of my favorites of the year even in the face of the mega-games of fall.Brianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07313514182988032282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6542773327630613295.post-46799461664632822192009-01-03T17:18:00.000-08:002009-01-03T17:18:00.000-08:00@Tynan Aye, that was poor terminology on my part. ...@Tynan Aye, that was poor terminology on my part. But "Games as a CDN" doesn't flow as well, eh? ;)

What I really appreciated about Fallout 3 (beyond an extreme amount of polish) was that it allowed for a nonlinear experience better than probably any game I've ever played. I'm working through it a second time and it's easily as good as the first time. I'm at level 12 or 13 and have seen nearly all new areas while barely touching the main story (haven't even gone to GNR). I'm not sure I remember any other RPG-ish game being so satisfying to replay.

Yea, I wanted to say more about L4D, but since it's a multiplayer game and I haven't played with people I know all that much, I felt I couldn't do it proper justice yet. No coincidence most of the other mentions were single player games; it's lonely over here in PC land at times. But yes, it's absolutely brilliant in a lot of ways and I'm really looking forward to where the concepts it introduced go from here.

Thanks for stopping by and I'm looking forward to more zombie slaying in the future.Nels Andersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06484436433023780229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6542773327630613295.post-70941514350224211142009-01-03T12:52:00.000-08:002009-01-03T12:52:00.000-08:00I love Steam, but I'm not sure I'd really call it ...I love Steam, but I'm not sure I'd really call it "games as a service". That implies that you pay continuously for the right to play. Steam is a content delivery system. And it rocks.

I agree on ME and FC2, they're both critically flawed games, but they both have important advances in them. Not sure I'd include Fallout3 here though. It's a well-executed game but aside from VATS there's little that's really that original. Oblivion with guns, anyone?

Wish you'd talked more about L4D. It was definitely the game of the year for me. Better than other games, with more original design concepts all of which have tons of future potential.Tynanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16215383762151866034noreply@blogger.com
